Eset Utility Page

From the people that make Nod32, a great anti-virus, they have released a few utilities on their site. Each of them are malware removal tools. One is via the web another is the stand alone version of the web based one and the third is a detailed system scanning tool to diagnose and rate items found in the scan. Very helpful

System Update Readiness Tool

I found this KB that should help fix windows update failures. It is the System Update Readiness Tool. When you download the file, it will scan for any needed updates and install them. I haven't had any success yet, but I'm hopeful. I tried on a Vista x86 on SP1 trying to get it to SP2.

Windows Update Error Code List

I found a comprehensive list of Windows Update Error codes and what they mean. The list doesn't say, now do this to fix it, but having a better understand of what the real error is makes the process much easier.

open .dmp file in windows 7

I found this site that links instructions on this process. The initial tool they suggest is the Windows Driver Kit (WDK) with several tools in it. Wouldn't be bad to get in its own right. One of the included tools is WinDBG, which is used for this process. After you finish with the setting, you can view what the dmp files say so you can troubleshoot the blue screens.

IP Scanner

The need for a tool to scan a sub net, or a segment therein, is needed at times, especially when looking for a networking device.IP Scanner on radmin.com does the job. It is easy to use and very clear in its output.

Windows 7 ISO

While looking for a copy of Windows 7 to upgrade a client's computer if found all versions linked on Technically Personal. I looked over Microsoft's page and couldn't easily find any download links. Technically Personal has many things to offer and appears to be a great resource.

Nintendo 3DS

What can I say about the 3DS but Awesome! I got my black one on launch day back in March 2011 and have had a blast with it. It plays the new 3DS games and the old DS games. The 3-D feature is very simple to use and easy to view.

They dropped the price from $250 to $170 a few days ago, wow $80 drop just 6 months in. To make up for that difference, Nintendo announced the Ambassador Program. This program will provide the ones that bought the 3DS at $250 vouchers for 20 free games from the eShop. Nintendo will release the vouchers in two waves. The first wave will be September 1st allowing us to get 10 free Classic NES titles. The second wave will be in November or December for 10 free GBA Virtual titles. I'm really pumped about this program and look forward to rediscovering these classic games. Enjoy!

Clone a hard drive

I found a tool from EaseUs called Disk Copy. This is a simple tool that creates a bootable disc/USB and allows you to either copy a single partition or the entire disk to another hard drive. Additionally, EaseUs offers another tool called ToDo Backup. They offer a free and paid version of this program which allows you to copy a single partition or the entire disk to another hard drive while running Windows if you are unable to boot to the disc, as well as additional features including backup tools. This tool worked very well and solved my problem. Enjoy!
